Someone said a little prayer for me

June 22, 2010

Oh yeah, this entry might sound a little bit different from the usual entries you expect me to post. People know me as the big girl with the laugh-out jokes and hearty laughs, but let me break that image for a while.

I grew up in a Catholic family – my paternal grandparents were active members of the religious group El Shaddai, my maternal grandparents were active in serving the Cursillo and their local Church, my parents were active members of the Couples for Christ and Handmaids of the Lord. So it isn’t a question why I joined the Kids for Christ and the Youth for Christ and why I agreed in starting a choir in our local Church. I’ve been through numerous youth camps, youth encounters, recollections, and retreats as a participant and as a facilitator. I’ve heard a lot of talks, sermons, preaches, and worships.

I’ve been serving the Church through singing for more than four years now. I started singing with my choir when I was in my senior year in high school until now that I am in my senior year in college. Given the years, I can say that I won’t get tired of singing for the Lord. As they say, “Singing for the Lord is twice as much as praying.” I beg to disagree. The statement could have been phrased this way: “Singing for the Lord is twice as much as praying if you have been praying.” Yes I have been singing for Him but I don’t regularly talk to Him. What’s the sense, right? It’s as if I’m singing to a friend once a week but throughout that week, I don’t talk to him/her.

This day touched me and reminded me of my, shall I say, fading personal relationship with the Lord. A good friend approached me and asked me if there’s anything that I wanted to pray for. I quickly said yes and enumerated what I wanted to pray for. But before she prayed for me, she talked about how the Lord wanted His people to create and enrich a deep and personal relationship with Him. All thoughts from my religious encounters before came back. As we prayed, I was deeply touched for how my friend prayed for the things I am sorry for, the things I thankful for, and the things I that I wanted to have. I was teary-eyed for how she prayed for me, and my slowly fading relationship with the Lord.

Say anything you like! That I am weird, nerdy, freak for talking about these things. But hey! This experience came in the right place, at the right time. I am in my last year in college and this is the time that I’ll be needing so much strength to carry out the responsibilities that I am and will be shouldering for the rest of the school year. For when everything seems to be out of order, prayer will put things into its place.

Our world has been so noisy, polluted, and fast-phased. Technology has taken place in the hearts of every individual. People are pre-occupied with work, projects, and reports. I say, it will always be nice to stop for a while, breathe and pray. Release all your stress and burdens to Him. Talk to the One who created us, the One who has already planned out our future. As to how we build and maintain relationships at school or in the workplace, let us also try to build and maintain a relationship with Him. I tell you, it will be one of your most quiet, peaceful, and treasured moments in life.

Yeah, this is me talking. 🙂

    hi pam 🙂

your post is amazing. you are so right. there are lots of things that we need and want to do that sometimes, we forget the main reason why we are here, why we exist. it is not wrong to do the things that give us satisfaction or fulfillment but as you said we need to strike a balance. we should not let our daily activities interfere with a rich relationship with our Father. i admit that sometimes, i choose to chat or play online games instead of spending quality time with Him. 😦
